Bold Colors

Bright, saturated colors are popping up (and peeking out) around Lafayette Square during lunchtime. The most popular colored items are probably dresses and skirts, which are typically played down with dark tights and sweaters, and other subdued accessories appropriate for the office.

But the boldest wearers color themselves from head to toe, creating a dramatic look in our gray-suited downtown. They keep a professional appearance by sticking to clean, tailored lines, and supporting their primary colors with complementary, rather than contrasting, elements.

Mid Century Inspiration

Modern_interpretations of the classic mid-century feminine style are everywhere this spring. Generally conservative with pieces like the short heels, fur-trimmed jackets, and silk neck scarves pictured, this trend is popularly worn during the work week. Incorporating too many vintage pieces, colors, or patterns, though, can quickly make a fresh, inspired outfit look too literal or old.

Red Jackets

For many DC women, the winter-to-spring transition is all about jackets in sun-inspired colors. Red is by far the most popular color and is worn by women of all ages. The tailored jackets tend to be brighter where the puffs are more subdued. Rich yellows are a unique alternative. Orange is virtually absent but with refreshing shades like Tangerine now all over the runways, that is sure to change by fall.
